Tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable death. Greendale Health Department partners with the Greendale School District and the Greendale Assistance Program to provide a comprehensive program to prevent tobacco and other drug use.
Smoke-free Wisconsin Act Becomes Law

The bill won't take effect until July 5, 2010, but in the meantime there are a few more communities that will be going smoke-free this summer: Monona (June 1), Shorewood (July), Verona (August), and Dane County (August). This bill covers almost all workplaces, including bars, restaurants, and bowling alleys. If you would like a FREE copy of Strategies for a Tobacco-Free Workplace, please call the Health Department.

Education
Tobacco Fighters: Volunteer students conduct events, projects, and campaigns at the Middle School and in the community to promote a tobacco free lifestyle. Tobacco Fighters conduct the annual “Tobacco is Wacko” poster contest and display the winning poster on a billboard and on the movie screen at Showtime Cinema.
Teens Against Tobacco Use (T.A.T.U.)
Volunteer high school students prepare an educational tobacco prevention program and give this presentation to all the 4th and 7th grade students in the Greendale School District and at St. Alphonsus School. These T.A.T.U. students are great role models for younger students.
