Village of Greendale Halloween Trick-or-Treat

The official trick-or-treat hours for the Village of Greendale are Sunday, October 30, 2011 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Trick-or-treat hours were adjusted this year to provide for the option of trick-or-treating after sunset. On October 30th, sunset occurs at approximately 6:00pm. The Greendale Police Department has assigned police officers to extra patrols during trick or treating.
Halloween Safety Tips for Trick or Treating
  • Always trick-or-treat with a supervising adult.
  • There is safety in numbers, always trick-or-treat with friends.
  • Be careful when you cross a street. Make sure to look in both directions and make sure there are no cars coming.
  • It is important that costumes allow for a clear field of vision. Face paint is recommended, but if a mask is used, ensure eye holes are large enough as to not cover the face.
  • Make your costume out of bright colors or affix reflective strips on your clothing.
  • Vehicles make not be able to see you if you wear dark clothing.
  • Carry a flashlight or glow stick in order to help vehicles see you better.
Halloween Safety Tips for Drivers
  • Pay extra attention, particularly to crosswalks, intersections and the side of the road. Kids tend to walk along the curbs, cutting across the street to get to other homes. Keep scanning all around you as you drive, whether as thru traffic or along with your kids as they trick-or-treat.
  • Drive below the posted speed limit in residential areas during trick-or-treating hours. This will allow you time to brake if you see a child dart in front of you.
  • Do not pass other vehicles that have stopped in the roadway, they could be dropping off children.

THE GREENDALE POLICE DEPARTMENT, PARTNERED WITH HALLOWEEN EXPRESS, IS PROVIDING FREE GLOW STICKS. Look for the tent at the end of the parade route (3:00 to 4:00pm) or stop at the Greendale Police Station during trick-or-treat hours (while supplies last). See the Village of Greendale website for parade details.
