HOW TO GET A PIN NUMBER IN COUNTYCAT

    Create Your Own Pin Number

    In order to:

    • View your circulation record
    • Request items
    • Connect to remote databases from home

you must enter a unique Patron Identification Number, or PIN.

A PIN will protect you from misuse of your account. You specify the PIN; it can be up to thirty characters long and can consist of any characters you choose. It is stored in encrypted form in a variable-length PIN field in the your record. You can change your PIN at any time using the VIEW your circulation record option (telnet). CountyCat will prompt you to enter a PIN the first time that you request a function that is protected by PIN verification. This is true both in the Web version and the telnet version of CountyCat. INNOPAC will then automatically create a PIN field in your record using the specified PIN. For example, when you selects the VIEW your circulation record option or asks to REQUEST an Item, you will be prompted as follows:

    • 1. Name: (key either first name or last name or last name, first name)
    • 2. Barcode: (key in the barcode number found on your library card: IF THE BARCODE BEGINS WITH "DD" enter: "DD" and the next nine digits of the barcode number. IF THE BARCODE BEGINS WITH "2" enter: All fourteen digits of the barcode number.

      1. Enter new PIN: ------
      2. Re-enter new PIN: ------

You must enter the PIN twice to verify that the PIN was entered as desired. If the two entries match, CountyCat adds the PIN to your record. If they do not match, CountyCat alerts the you with the message:

They don't match; try again. Press SPACE to continue

    If You Forget Your PIN

If you forget your PIN, staff must delete the encrypted PIN from your record and then you can recreate your own new PIN. (see steps above)

If You Wish to Modify Your Pin (available in telnet version only)

    V) VIEW your circulation record

    M) MODIFY pin

    prompts follow

    • Enter old PIN: ----- (patron enters old PIN)
    • Enter new PIN: ----- (patron enters new PIN)
    • Re-enter new PIN: ----- :(patron verifies new PIN)

The patron PIN has now been modified successfully.
