It has been a busy two weeks in Greendale, and this
weekend will see Greendale’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt on
April 23. Below you will find information about
upcoming meetings at Village Hall, Greendale 75th
Anniversary Committee’s kick-off event on May 1 and
other community news.

Village Board Meeting in Review
The Village Board considered a number of items at their previous meeting. They referred communications to the Public Works Committee for review and recommendation for the replacement of the Village’s elevated storage tank and the Root River Drive Flood Control Project. A Special Use/Building Permit Application for a proposed Wal-Mart at 5301 S. 76th Street (former American Bowling Congress Building); a Special Use/Building Permit Application to remodel the building’s exterior entrance at Kohl’s Department Store located at Southridge Mall, 5300 S. 76th Street; and a Special Use Permit Application to authorize temporary use to conduct motorcycle safety training classes in the general location of the northeast parking lot at Southridge Mall, 5300 S. 76th Street were referred to the Plan Commission. The Board awarded the 2011 Village Street Rehabilitation and Drainage Improvements Program to the lowest bidder (the work will begin soon). Resolution R2011-02 Approving the 2012-2014 Community Development Block Grant Program Participation Agreement with Milwaukee County was approved, along with Beverage Operator Licenses, the Finance Committee Internal Audit, and the Accounts Payable Checks. The Status of Accounts submitted by the Clerk-Treasurer were reviewed. The Board approved proclamations for two Eagle Scouts: Kevin David Walsh and Alexander John Unger, as well as a proclamation for Arbor Day. They also met in closed session to discuss contract negotiations with the Village’s represented employees. An additional meeting in closed session was held to discuss economic development efforts in the Southridge Mall area and the planned multi-million dollar redevelopment of Southridge Mall.
April 19 Village Board Meeting Preview
On Tuesday, April 19th, the Village Board will consider several items, including: consideration of a Special Use/Building Permit Application to remodel the building’s exterior entrance at Kohl’s Department Store located at Southridge Mall, 5300 S. 76th Street in accordance with Section 17.36(3) of the Greendale Zoning Code and a Special Use Permit Application to authorize temporary use to conduct motorcycle safety training classes in the general location of the northeast parking lot at Southridge Mall, 5300 S. 76th Street in accordance with Section 17.36(3) of the Greendale Zoning Code. They will also consider whether to seek bids for the Root River Drive Area Flood Control Project and will discuss, but take no action, on the replacement of the Village’s elevated storage tank. Special Event permits will be considered for three events: the Greendale Park and Recreation Department’s Perennial Plant Exchange; the Village of Greendale 75th Anniversary Kick-Off Event for May 1st; and the Greendale Health Department’s Step Up for Better Health Community Charity Walk. The Board will also consider approving a proclamation for Clean and Green Day in the Village of Greendale. They will meet in closed session to discuss contract negotiations with the Village’s represented employees and an additional meeting in closed session will take place to discuss economic development efforts in the Southridge Mall area and the planned multi-million dollar redevelopment of Southridge Mall.
Greendale Easter Egg Hunt on April 23
The annual Greendale Lions Club Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Saturday, April 23 at 10 a.m. in front of the Greendale High School and at Brinkman Field, just east of the high school. The hunt is for all Greendale children from toddlers through age 8.
At 10 a.m. the traditional starting siren will mark the beginning of the search for candy Easter eggs. Specially marked candy eggs will be redeemable for prizes. Toddlers through children age 4 will meet in front of the high school on the upper level. Children ages 5 and 6 will meet at Brinkman Field I (near the lower level of the high school parking lot). Seven and 8-year old children will gather at Brinkman Field II (near the baseball diamond).
The Easter Egg Hunt is a free community event sponsored by the Greendale Lions Club for the enjoyment of Greendale residents. The candy eggs and prizes will be provided by the Greendale Lions Club.
Wal-Mart Meeting Schedule
The proposed development of a Wal-Mart on S. 76th St. will be discussed at the following meetings which will be held at the Greendale Safety Center, 5911 West Grange Avenue:
Medication Disposal
Residents can bring old medications and non-prescription drugs to the Greendale Police Department for disposal, Monday through Friday. This program is in cooperation with the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District to help keep our landfills and waterways clear of drugs. We ask that you separate prescription and non-prescription drugs.
‘Countdown to 75’ Kickoff Event on May 1
The Greendale 75th Anniversary Committee will be holding a 75th Celebration Kick-off Event on Sunday, May 1. Activities will include the presentation of the “Preserve America” award to Greendale. Greendale police and fire vehicles will be on display. There will also be a Classic & Custom Car Show. All car buffs are invited to show off their wheels. Winners of the Greendale Schools Art & Essay Contest, “What Greendale Means to Me” will be also be announced and will receive their awards.
Events will be held near the Greendale Gazebo and on Broad Street. Listen for the music and watch for the fun. The Kick-off starts at 1:00 p.m. and will run until 3:00 p.m.

May Health Department Clinics
The Greendale Health Department has scheduled its May Clinics. Please call 423-2110 for an appointment.
Immunization Clinics:
“Green Up Greendale” will be held on Saturday, May 7 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Greendale Middle School. The event, sponsored by the Greendale Goes Green Committee, will include numerous exhibitors from around the region who will highlight ways to be “green, sustainable, healthy and socially responsible” and showcase related projects from students in the Greendale School District. The event is free and open to the public.
