February is shaping up to be a busy month in the
Village, a highlight being the annual “I Left My
Heart on Broad Street” event in the Village Center on
February 12. Below you will also find information
about upcoming meetings at Village Hall, details
about the Spring Primary Election, and other
community news. We have also included information
from the DPW on snow removal policies and tips as we
prepare for the forecasted snow event coming our way.

Village Board Meeting in Review
The Village Board considered a number of items at their meeting on January 18. They referred the Village Engineer’s proposal for the 2011 Street Rehabilitation Program to the Public Works Committee for review and recommendation. They also referred a certified survey map combining two parcels for the senior housing complex being constructed at 6801 W. Loomis Road to the Plan Commission. These items will be considered by the board at a future Board meeting.
The Board approved beverage operator’s licenses, and the Clerk-Treasurer reviewed the Village’s financial status. Special community event permits were approved for Trimborn Farms to hold four events in 2011. The Board also approved special community event permits for Grandhaven LLC to hold five events in 2011: I Left My Heart on Broad Street, Spring into Greendale, Gallery Night, Hay Days, and A Dickens of a Christmas.
Trustees met in closed session to discuss contract negotiations with the Village’s represented employees. An additional closed session meeting took place to discuss economic development efforts in the Southridge Mall area and the planned multi-million dollar redevelopment of the mall.

February 1 Village Board Meeting Preview
On Tuesday, February 1, the Village Board will consider several items. They will consider alternatives for the Greendale Fire Station. The building is 44 years old and in need of repair, renovation, or reconstruction. The Board will consider buying two new police squad cars, new financial software, as well as a medium-duty truck for the Department of Public Works.
Trustees will act on several beverage operator licenses. The Board will consider applying for a grant to acquire two flood-prone properties in the Root River Drive area. They will also affirm proclamations for the Greendale Chamber of Commerce’s 2011 recognition award winners. They will meet again in closed session to discuss contract negotiations with the Village’s represented employees. An additional meeting in closed session will take place to discuss economic development efforts in the Southridge Mall area and the planned multi-million dollar redevelopment of Southridge Mall.
Snow Removal Policies and Safety Tips
The ability to react quickly to varying winter weather conditions is of paramount importance to your Public Works Department and a necessary function of local government. Our top priority is to provide safe passage on Village streets and sidewalks for our residents and those traveling through the Village. The Village has standard policies and procedures that address the proper response and level of snow and ice control within the Village of Greendale. Spring Primary Election on February 15
A Spring Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, February 15. For more information on polling locations and hours as well as other voting procedures, please click here.
I Left My Heart on Broad Street on February 12
The annual "I Left My Heart on Broad Street" event will be held on February 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be live music, ice sculpting, a chili cook-off and much more. For more information, visit www.discovergreendale.com.

Friends of the Library Book Sale Slated for February 12
The Greendale Public Library will host a Friends of the Library used book sale on Saturday, February 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the lower level meeting room. “Early Bird” admission is $5 to shop from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m.; admission is free for Friends of the Library. All proceeds benefit the Greendale Public Library.
