Proper disposal of community sharps reduces the risk of harm to others and the environment!

The Greendale Public Health Department now accepts sharps (needles, syringes, and lancets). Sharps that are not properly handled or disposed of can pose a serious risk of infection and diseases to others who might accidentally be stuck by them.

The Greendale Public Health Department is a sharps collection station for Greendale Residents (not businesses).  A sharps collection station is a place that voluntarily accepts sharps from persons who generate less than 50 pounds of infectious waste each month. There is no charge for the collection or disposal of sharps. Approved biohazard containers will be available for purchase to Greendale Residents at the Health Department.

State Law requires proper disposal. (Municipal Code: 11.09 State Statute:  NR 526.05
) Acceptable containers include: commercially available sharps container labeled "biohazard". When the container is full, lock the lid and wipe the outside of container with household cleaner. Bring the container to the Greendale Health Department. Do not discard in household garbage. Keep sharps out of the reach of children.
