Permit Requirements

For Commercial Building Permits submittals:
Minor Alterations: permit application and 3 sets of plans
State Plan Review: Greendale is a Delegated Municipality. We handle Building and HVAC plan review in house under 100,000 cubic feet.

Fire protection plan reviews are completed by FSCI (see document center for details). The local permits/fees required after review are found on the Electrical (Alarms/Devices), HVAC (Kitchen Hoods/Exhaust), and Plumbing (Sprinkler) permit applications. 

For Residential Building Permits you must submit the following:
1 Greendale permit application/(for New Single Family build only - 1 UDC Application  and 1 online submittal here
1 set of plans/scaled drawings
1 set of any other details/specs/color samples
1 survey (if required)-***New single family homes shall include a proposed grading plan with set grades, erosion control and landscaping plan.

Electrical Permit

Only State licensed Master Electricians may perform electrical work in the Village of Greendale. An Electrical Permit is required for the items listed below. This list is not inclusive, but does cover the more common items that require permits.

  • New buildings, additions and alterations
  • Circuit extensions for new outlets, fixtures, etc.
  • Air-Conditioners (Also requires a Heating Permit)
  • Dishwashers (Also requires a Plumbing Permit)
  • Furnaces (Also requires a Heating Permit)
  • Radon Fan (new outlet)
  • Hot Tubs (Also requires a Building Permit)
  • Post lights
  • Water Heaters (Also requires a Plumbing Permit)

Heating Permits

A Heating Permit is required for the items listed below. This list is not inclusive, but does cover the more common items that require permits.

  • New buildings, additions & alterations
  • Furnaces/boilers, new or replacements (Also requires an Electrical Permit)
  • Air-Conditioners, new or replacements (Also requires an Electrical Permit)
  • New ductwork or boiler circulating piping

Plumbing Permit

A Plumbing Permit is required for the items listed below. This list is not inclusive, but does cover the more common items that require permits.

  • New buildings, additions & alterations
  • Water heaters (gas or electric), new or replacements (If electric, also requires an Electrical Permit-if new outlet wired)
  • Dishwashers new or replacements (Also requires an Electrical Permit)
  • Fixture replacement (sinks, garbage disposals, toilets, tubs, showers, hose bibs, etc.)
  • Water softeners
  • Backflow prevention devices
  • Fire protection (sprinkler) systems (must submit SBD-118 form to FSCI with plans - Fire Protection Plan Review FAQ's
  • Turf irrigation systems
